We work with clients to redesign operations, build AI-enabled products and workflows, and develop the skills needed to use them well. Our work sits across business, product, design and engineering.

We are looking for interns who want to learn how real products and business systems go from an unclear problem to something people can use.

You do not need a computer science degree. You do need to understand the fundamentals of software engineering and show us something you have built and shipped. That might be an application, website, automation, prototype, data project, agent, university project or small business. It does not need to be commercially successful or technically perfect. We care about what you made, who it was for, what you learned and whether you finished it.

Choose your pathway

All interns work across disciplines. Choose the pathway that best matches where you can contribute now and what you want to learn next. You may select a second pathway if your experience genuinely spans both.

1. Product Engineering

For people who most enjoy building and improving working software.

You might:

• turn a client or user problem into a simple technical plan;
• build features across data, application logic and user interfaces;
• prototype AI-enabled tools and workflows;
• use coding agents to increase your output while maintaining tests and code quality;
• test, deploy, monitor and improve what you build;
• explain technical choices to colleagues and clients.

This pathway may suit students or graduates in computer science, software engineering, data science, mathematics or another technical subject. Your degree title is less important than evidence that you can build.

2. Product & Business

For people who enjoy understanding customer and business needs, shaping practical solutions and working with clients and engineers to turn ideas into useful outcomes.

You might:

• understand how a customer or business currently works and where the real need sits;
• translate that need into clear requirements and priorities;
• work directly with clients through discovery and delivery;
• build lightweight prototypes or automations to test ideas early;
• work with engineers to turn requirements and product decisions into working software;
• document decisions, recommendations and next steps clearly.

This pathway may suit students or graduates in product design, business, communications, engineering, human-computer interaction, psychology, economics or another analytical or technical subject. You do not need to be an engineer, but you must understand software-engineering fundamentals and be comfortable using code and AI tools to prototype, test ideas and work effectively with engineering.

What all interns will do

Whichever pathway you choose, you will:

• work on a real internal or client problem with a supervisor;
• help take work from discovery through to a usable result;
• use modern AI tools, including coding agents, as part of your daily work;
• work with people from business, product, design and engineering;
• show your work regularly, respond to feedback and improve it;
• document what you build and what you learn;
• take responsibility for an agreed outcome, with support appropriate to your experience.

Client access and production-system access will depend on the project, the length of the internship and the client's security requirements. Interns will not be left solely responsible for critical client decisions or production systems.

What we are looking for

You must be able to show:

• a basic understanding of how software works and how code is used to build products;
• at least one project or product that you took far enough for someone else to use, test or review;
• clear thinking about the problem you were trying to solve and the choices you made;
• curiosity about business, users and product decisions—not only the technology;
• the ability to explain your work clearly to technical and non-technical people;
• initiative, reliability and a willingness to ask for help when you need it;
• thoughtful use of AI tools, with the judgement to check their output rather than accept it blindly.

Useful experience

Any of the following would be helpful, but none is essential:

• building a web or mobile application;
• automating a manual task;
• working with data, APIs or language models;
• conducting user research or testing a prototype;
• running a student society, project or small business;
• explaining technical ideas through writing, presentations or workshops;
• contributing to an open-source or team codebase;
• deploying and maintaining something used by other people.

What you will learn

You will learn how to:

• find the real problem behind an initial request;
• decide what to build, buy, automate or leave alone;
• turn discovery into a focused plan and usable product;
• work with AI tools without giving up quality or judgement;
• balance user needs, business value, technical constraints and delivery speed;
• communicate with clients and contribute in a multidisciplinary team;
• take a piece of work from an idea to a demonstrable outcome.

You will have a named supervisor, regular feedback and access to experienced founders, product practitioners and engineers. We will agree learning goals and a concrete project outcome at the start.

The selection process

We want the process to reveal how you think and what you can do—not how well you know recruitment conventions.

1. Recorded application

Send us an email with a link to a video of you speaking for no more than 10 minutes:

• spend 2–3 minutes introducing yourself and explaining why the opportunity interests you;
• spend 5–8 minutes presenting one thing you have built and shipped, including why you built it, the main considerations, the outcomes and what you learned;
• state your preferred pathway and whether you are applying for a short-term or long-term placement.

Include a link to the project or a demonstration if you can share it. A CV is not required but is advised. Private projects are welcome: if you cannot share the work itself, explain or demonstrate it without disclosing confidential information.

2. Practical exercise

Complete a short, time-boxed task in a SoundSenseAI-provided environment. The task will differ by pathway and will reflect the work rather than test abstract puzzles. We will review the result and the activity captured in the environment, including how you used AI tools, how you checked their output and how you made decisions. We will explain in advance what is recorded and how it will be used. Any exercise substantial enough to create useful work for SoundSenseAI will be paid.

3. Final case-study interview

Work through a set of problems in real time with members of the team. The case study will be tailored to the Product Engineering or Product & Business pathway. We will assess your reasoning, decisions and communication as well as your answers, then explain the next steps and aim to make a decision promptly.

Practical details

• Formats: 8–12 week short-term placement or 9–12 month long-term placement.
• Start: Throughout the year, by agreement.
• Location: Remote-first. Applicants may be based in any country within two hours of GMT. Any in-person team or client work and related travel will be agreed in advance.
• Hours: Full-time. We expect reliable, sustained commitment and will review progress regularly. Tell us if you need a reasonable adjustment at any stage.
• Pay: This is a paid role. Expect a competitive salary for an internship.
• Contract: The contract will be structured as a freelance engagement
